Women’s rights, ‎gender equality‬ investments and liberty operas are becoming softie masks or जुमलेबाजी to please and lure the 50% voters population in a nation of 365 days election fever each year, direct or indirect. For them its like बहती गंगा में हाथ धोना – the downtrodden and suffering women needing real support were always ignored & dumped in wholesale, as collateral since dawn of time and civilizations. There’s something uncomfortably Neo-colonial about the way violence against women are being handled in the media here and in the West. While India’s civil and political spheres are alight with protest and demands for changes to the country’s culture of sexual violence, commentators in West and their Indian छेला are also using such events to simultaneously demonize Indian society, lionize their own, and minimize the enormity of their domestic rape (or RAP) culture augmented by mobile apps and wild west media.

Colonial history helped to create and global capital continues to sustain low standards of living in India. We would do well to be cognizant of our historically inscribed privilege before complaining that few horrific events have destroyed our pretty colonial fantasies.

It is a culture whose only words for strength and power are feminine – “Shakti” means “power” and “strength”. All male power comes from the feminine. For example, Valmiki’s Ramayana teaches us that Ravana and his entire clan was wiped out because he abducted Sita. Veda Vyasa’s Mahabharatha teaches us that all the Kauravas were killed because they humiliated Draupadi in public. Elango Adigal’s Sillapathigaram teaches us Madurai, the capital of the Pandyas was burnt because Pandyan mistakenly killed her husband on theft charges.

India of the Vedas entertained a respect for women amounting to worship; a fact which seem little to suspect in West when they in association with desi sensational robin-hoods accuse the extreme East of having denied the dignity of woman, and of having only made her an instrument of pleasure and passive obedience. Here is a civilization, which is older than all others put together and places the woman on a level with the man and gives her an equal place in the family and in society.
