Rural Health care is one of the biggest challenges that India is facing today. India is a densely populated country where a large number of people live without access to basic education and primary health facilities. The situation is more complex in rural villages as compared to urban areas. Their houses are poorly constructed and have inadequate supply of water and electricity. In addition to their poor socio economic condition, another major cause of their sufferings is lack of education and public awareness.
Aar-em Electronics Pvt. Ltd. a Pune based manufacturer of the well-known CHAMPION brand of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) is doing a lot of activities revolving around use of solar energy. Considering the entire picture Aar-em Electronics Pvt. Ltd. took the initiative of introducing rural India to health awareness programs. With the objective to, fill the gaps in implementation of various policies and programs to meet the goals of a healthy rural India. It aims to educate rural India and make them aware of how to take proper care of their health. This program is focused towards addressing issues of personal health care, vaccination, hygiene, and illness prevention and many more.
Aar-em realized that the best form of promoting this awareness was to screen outdoor videos and ask local bodies to encourage people to come in large numbers and view them. At most places the biggest challenge faced was access to stable and reliable power. Aar-em has overcome the same by designing 2 vehicles which drive into interior parts of rural India and which have solar roof top modules mounted on them which in turn charges the batteries whenever in strong sunlight zone, as and when available store this energy into batteries and later through high efficiency inverters power professional outdoor projector and a Hi-Fi sound system thus screening high definition video and clear sound. The project has evolved high interest among villagers and Aar-em wishes to run more such educational projects using solar energy as the prime mover for generating electricity. This project is being done on a trial basis and will be implemented in more areas in the days to come. A similar concept on education minor children visiting Anganwadi’s in Maharashtra is also on the anvil
All this is being done as a social responsibility awareness project related to health, and being run in Maharashtra rural areas for the betterment of society. The aim is to increase public awareness of symptoms and signs of disease, to promote family and community with positive lifestyle habits and to create public awareness about the ill effects of alcohol, smoking and drugs, etc.
These videos impart health education. For all these, people are encouraged to incorporate healthy habits and take various preventive measures. In addition, people are also spurred to boost up their daily nutrition intake. They are also given information on how to integrate and maintain hygiene in their lifestyle. Apart from that, special attention is given to women’s reproductive health.
